Things we can never say in the UK - "Let's have a barbecue in a fortnight" 

Not for us is it ever a pre-planned, al fresco dining experience, it's more likely to end up with one poor soul out in the freezing cold, while everyone watches from indoors...  Still, we are always optimistic when it's warm, so if you decide to eat outside at the last-minute, here are Delia's recipes for salsas and dips (to pass the time away while the barbecue gets lit), and barbecued meat and fish that will taste just as good if they do end up being cooked in the kitchen!
