Missing ingredient!
I committed the cardinal sin - not ticking my ingredients off.
I had my first Christmas cake in the oven tonight for about ten minutes when it struck me I hadn’t added the treacle. I’m using Delia’s Traditional Recipe
OK so it’s not the end of the world but rather than giving its dark coloured look will it affect the taste of the cake? My intention is to completely ice it
As I see it the cake is essentially a rich fruit cake and I’m wondering would it be best put by and just used as a fruit cake during February and March or just use it as a light Christmas Cake
I normally bake three, two as gifts and one for myself
Hello,
It will still be a rich fruitcake, just a shade lighter than it would have been had you included the treacle.
I’m sure it will be fine and even better if you ‘feed it’, but not essential if you don’t like to.
Another thought! If you do ‘feed’ your cake with brandy or Armagnac, you could measure out about 60mls and add the treacle to it and use that mixture to feed your cake every few weeks.
Best wishes
