Wedding cake size for 100 guests

Dear Lindsey
I want to make a 3 tier fruit wedding cake for my daughter. Could you please advise me on the sizes of the cake tins. There are around 100 guests and the top tier will be kept hopefully for a future Christening.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Kind regards

Hello Evelyn,
If you’re serving the wedding cake in addition to dessert you could serve a 1 inch square slice per person but if not you’ll need at least a 1 by 2 inch portion per person and probably extra for any guests tempted by a second piece.
Obviously square cakes are easier to portion so if your making round cakes they are more easily portioned if the cakes are cut to from a square before being sliced then you can make best for the trimmings. If your having caterers they will usually do this all for you.
For round cakes serving 1 by 1 inch portions (and not serving the top tier) I would do 10, 8 and 6 inch cakes.
For 2 by 1 inch portions I would do 12, 10 and 8 inch cakes.
Kind regards
Lindsey
